If there is one thing 2019 is giving the wedding world, it’s more of being you. And we’re seeing so many different types of people, venues, and styles. And, thank goodness, there are more options for different types of wedding dress than ever (thank you, internet!). I love that because of social media, we are seeing amazing wedding dresses from designers all over the world.
But I often hear from Jacksonville brides that there are no dresses they like, that every shop they walk into has stiff ballgowns and nothing else. So I wanted to show just a few ways you could bring a more modern edge to your bridal fashion, whatever your fashion cuppa.
I’ve styled three different looks with the help of amazing makeup artist Lia Croke, rad hairstylist Casey Powell, and the ever so gracious Love Bridal Boutique.
Look #1: Minimalist and Modern
Grace looks perfectly suited to a New York rooftop wedding with this minimalist but bold gown by Sarah Seven. We kept her makeup colors very neutral and then a bold cats eye because minimalist doesn’t mean boring. 😉 I am in love with how Casey created the perfect wrapped ponytail to finish off the look.
And if you’re like me and aren’t reaaaally a minimalist, then you throw a dramatic lace veil over the whole thing because EEEEKKK!!! So pretty!!
Look #2: Soft and Natural
Now this has been the traditional look of wedding fashion but that doesn’t mean you can’t change things up with your own unique spin. I completely love the fact that instead of a train, this Robert Bullock design uses, wait for it, a wedding cape! Why have I not known about this before?! It brings just the right amount of unexpected into a more traditional look.
Donisha carries off the perfect swipe of strawberry pink on her lips for a natural but colorful feel to her makeup. And I love how Casey used this delicate twigs and honey headband into a hair piece in the back so she looks just as good going as coming. 😉
Look #3: Beachy Bohemian
Now I gotta be straight with you, this look right here is my happy place. My philosophy is if it looks good on you and makes you happy, wear it. Abiding my style rules makes life boring. lol So naturally I’m a big fan of dresses you can move in, hair that isn’t too perfect, and the more jewelry the merrier.
Kelsey and her mega watt smile was the perfect fit for a look inspired by those bronzed, Australian beach babes that are always popping up in your instagram feed. The intricate embroidery on this Martina Liana dress jives so well with the fun, boho bride look (disclaimer, I totally made those armbands because I’m a bohemian remember? ???? ). Her tangerine eyeshadow, totally Lia’s idea, is so perfect that I need to head to Sephora right now and get some for me.
Ladies, wherever you live, whatever your budget, or dresses you have access to,
you can absolutely create a bridal look that totally fits you.
Look outside of the wedding world for inspiration, ignore the rules and you can create a look that’s not only gorgeous but totally you. This is 2019 after all. So you do you. ????
